4 Reasons Why You Should Reconsider Email Marketing

Kala Malvaso • June 13, 2021

You've heard it before: email marketing is dead. But is it?

Email marketing has been a long withstanding practice for most businesses dating back to the days of the Blackberry. But all good things must come to an end, right? It's true, email marketing can be inefficient if done poorly, but it can also be one of the most effective ways to engage your online audience for your small business.

Let's take a deep dive into why you should reconsider email marketing as part of your marketing plan.

Email Marketing Is One of the Most Effective Marketing Channels.

Move over social media and blog posts (yes, even this one), email marketing is one of the most effective marketing channels for both B2B and B2C marketers. While you may think your inbox cannot handle yet another email, statistics show year over year that email marketing is still one of the best ways to reach users.

Email Marketing Is Cost-Effective.

There's not many marketing methods that boast little to no cost that can also produce strong results like email marketing. You don't need any fancy technology to send an email, just a keyboard and a few words and voila!, you've got yourself a presentable email.

You can most certainly invest in email software to help you create vibrant templates and exclusive designs to wow your audience, and many are affordable options that any business can choose. From MailChimp to Constant Contact to HubSpot, there is something for every level of marketer, and most are super user friendly.

Email Marketing Simplifies Your Campaigns.

There are many different types of email to help keep your campaigns running, and the great thing is that many can be automated to save you valuable time. Automation helps small businesses run more efficiently by allowing you to schedule emails ahead of time. This helps you not miss a beat when life gets busy.

What types of email marketing are useful for my small business?

Once a user fills out a form, signs up for a newsletter, or engages in some other way with one of your forms that asks for email, your first step would be to send out a welcome email.
Welcome emails instantly connect with your new audience and let them know what to expect in your virtual relationship.

It's important to clearly define expectations (will they hear from you weekly, monthly, etc.?) and also where they can unsubscribe if their needs change in the future. Make it fun and not too basic (you're not a robot, are you?). Consider it a first date in the email world, so you want to make sure they come back for round two when that next email hits their inbox.

Promotional emails are a common method of connecting with users. This allows you to keep your audience up to date with new products, promotions, anything you want to ensure your users won't miss. You can also use this type of email to promote new blog posts or other business updates.

Newsletters are the perfect way to stay in touch with your audience on a regular basis. These can be daily, weekly, monthly, or whatever schedule fits your needs. Just be sure to stick to your schedule as you don't want to disappoint your audience which can make you lose credibility.

Another great tool of email marketing is lead nurturing emails. This inbound marketing method uses a string of connected emails to help guide the user through their customer journey. It's helpful to first develop client personas to better understand their pain points and where they may be in the process, so you can provide helpful information to them. If done well, you can lead them down the sales funnel and even close a sale right from email. Pretty impressive, right?

Transactional emails are used as a confirmation of an action a user takes. Whether they sign up for a newsletter, buy a product on an eCommerce site, or fill out a basic informational form, transactional emails are sent right away and can include a call to action (CTA) for them to take. These have a high open and click through rate since the user is anticipating receiving a confirmation, so use that to your advantage.

These are just a few of the common types of emails that can be sent, but there are many others. Email marketing sets the bar high for variety, and the options are truly endless! Don't skip over this effective marketing channel.

Email Marketing Can Help Grow Your Reach.

As of 2021, over 4.03 BILLION people use email all around the world. You may only need to reach a small portion of those users, but you can't deny the magnitude of opportunity with those numbers. Out of all of those users, Millennials make up the largest chunk. They check their emails upon waking, throughout their workday, and again before setting down their phone before bed. They now make up the largest group of the current workforce, so why not find a way to capitalize on that virtually free engagement?
